sudo apt-get ‘installed’ !! :D

Along with LibreHatti, we were also given tasks related to Latex. The first and the foremost thing to be done was supposed to be the installation of Latex. The installation wasn’t the tough part though it became one for me. πŸ˜›

Just one command and it was supposed to be done. Mind this ! ‘supposed to be done’ . πŸ˜›

The command to install Latex is :

 sudo apt-get install texlive-full

If the installation is interrupted in between, you may resume it using the option fix-missing as :

 sudo apt-get install --fix-missing texlive-full

Every friend of mine had Latex installed on their laptops within 3-4 days of assignment of our tasks. But, I wasn’t, because of the errors I was encountering while installing or updating anything from terminal.

The errors were fresh for me. πŸ˜› I feared seeing them. Wanna have a look ?

Here it is :

W: GPG error: precise Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key
W: GPG error: precise Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG BF36996C4E1F8A59

These errors were not limited to the installation of Latex. I encountered such signature errors, every time I tried to install or upgrade or update anything. Or, in a way, ‘sudo apt-get’ stopped working for me. 😦

Whenever I tried to use :

 sudo apt-get update

I encountered the error :

The following signatures were invalid: NODATA 1 NODATA 2

I was surrounded by such signature errors. 😦

I asked my friends about this but, none had an idea. As always, I came to Google for my rescue and was able to solve the issue in the 2nd attempt itself.
Following is the 1st solution I tried (it didn’t work for me, but it might, for you ) :

1. First try :

  sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver 40976EAF437D05B5

where 40976EAF437D05B5 is the number(key) written after the word BADSIG in the error statement.
I tried finding the reason of why this didn’t work and I found something like (not very sure) :
BADSIG is different than NO_PUBKEY and the above method is meant for the latter, though it may work for the former.

2. (this one worked for me) I tried the following set of commands :

cd /var/lib/apt
sudo mv lists lists.old
sudo mkdir -p lists/partial
sudo apt-get update

These commands rebuild the cache, as I read. ‘Rebuild the cache ?’, I don’t really know, what it means. πŸ˜› I tried finding out, but didn’t find the answers much relevant. Answers are welcome ! πŸ˜‰

After the execution of these commands, sudo apt-get started working and finally, I am done with the Latex installation. πŸ™‚
Apart from this, we’ve been assigned our new tasks related to ‘suspence’ in LibreHatti. I’m done with the models (and almost with the forms part ) and have pushed the changes. My new team includes Divyanshi and Aashita. Currently, they are busy with their Latex presentation and would join me tomorrow after delivering their awesome presentation. πŸ™‚
Let the ‘Suspense’ or ‘Suspence’ reveal !! πŸ˜‰

Rhinoviruses v/s Saloni ;)

It was supposed to be a working Sunday for us, today, but luckily or unluckily it wasn’t the case with me. It was 8 when the sun rays falling in my room opened up my eyes. Having no courage to get up from my bed, I, suddenly, realized how badly I was attacked by the rhinoviruses over the night that my voice wasn’t even able to feed my mother’s ears who was lying just beside me.
Somehow, I managed to converse with her with my cracking voice and she ordered me to sleep again and take rest. I agreed with no reluctance. πŸ˜› At times, I just love to be ordered for such things. πŸ˜‰ And as usual, Sunday then resumed for me in the afternoon.
I felt flimsy with my constantly running nose and hoarse voice. But happily, I was already done with my LibreHatti task and presently didn’t have much to do apart from understanding some parts of the codes of LibreHatti, looking into my friends’ problems etc. Since I had no much work, I had planned a day before to cover much of Latex and to continue with the Recipe App I started (apart from the app we were supposed to make as a one day task). But, the rhinoviruses were determined to knock me down and ruin my plans. 😦 It was then, constant sneezing accompanied my flowing nose and sore throat. And I was no surprised, to find myself searching Google for ‘How to feel better during cold and cough’. πŸ˜› My brother even started calculating the number of words I could speak before sneezing. πŸ˜› ’20-25′, he averaged. πŸ˜›
Seeing my condition, I was advised to…..Aaaaaaachhhi !! πŸ˜› ..oops!! Excuse me ! πŸ˜› ….So, I was advised to sleep again after taking the medicine. But, with the dose of the pills, I was able to get myself back to work. I had no mood of continuing with Latex. So, I first read and understood the part of the LibreHatti code, I wanted to. Later, I continued working on my recipe app that had been ignored because of LibreHatti and other tasks. This was also one of the reasons why I wanted to continue with this app, this Sunday. All this while, I constantly sneezed and my brother didn’t forget to keep track of the number of words I spoke before the ‘monotonous-turned-sound’ Aaachhhiiii ! πŸ˜›
With passage of some more minutes, my throat did feel better but the sneezing didn’t halt. 😦 But, still, beating up the viruses this time, I am done with quite a good amount of things for my app. Hope the rhinoviruses pardon me this night. πŸ˜› πŸ™‚
And, now there’s a small tip…
For all those who have to hold handkerchiefs for their constantly flowing noses, Do listen to ‘Don’t let the cold’ (sung by Tanita Tikaram)…IDK why, but it made me feel better. πŸ˜‰
At last, Bonne nuit Folks! πŸ™‚

Summarizing the 5th week….

July 5, 2014

The last working day of fifth week ended deliciously with the pizza and the moose cake. πŸ˜‰ It was the presentation day. The Big Data team and the students under Sehra Sir’s training were the new guests in our Home, TCC. This reminds me of a casual question that was asked by Navjot Singh, ‘What do you call this place ? Seminar Hall or classroom or what ?’ “HOME”, a voice answered. πŸ™‚ It was Gaganjyot ( just loved the way, he answered this. ) The presentation ceremony started as Charu addressed the audience and gave some instructions to be followed that included things like putting your phone on silent mode etc. She then handed over the stage to Inderpreet Singh who dedicated his presentation to Aaron Swartz. ( Don’t know who is Aaron Swartz ? Keep Calm and Search! πŸ˜‰ ) He also brought Google goodies to lure the audience. πŸ˜› No different, I too was lured. πŸ˜› I wanted that pen badly, but it wasn’t in my destiny, today. 😦 ( ‘destiny’…strong word, Isn’t it ? πŸ˜› ) Inder’s presentation was followed by an introductory session with Navjot Singh Tung which was further taken over by the students who were working on their project that could tell how many people are thinking negative or positive about one thing or other by fetching the Twitter tweets. Nice !
The day ended soon after the presentations and we thought of paying attention to our stomach’s call πŸ˜› or actually, our tongue’s call. πŸ˜› ( As mumma says, sab jibh da swaad hai πŸ˜› ) We went for a tiny pizza party. Such unplanned small treats are the best ones. πŸ™‚

Things done this week :

  • Search task completed, pushed and perhaps, merged, too ! πŸ™‚
  • Started with Latex.

The fifth week wasn’t straight. It had many ups and downs. Having done the first task, I had sent the pull request very confidently ( a few weeks ago ). But, yesterday I realized about my mistake of not sending the things properly for what I pulled wasn’t supposed to be. I was already surrounded by so many hurdles ( in the current task) that knowing about this frustrated me. It did help in sinking my confidence and distracted me from the current task. ‘I am dumb’, I thought. ( It rained too πŸ˜› …salty drops πŸ˜› ) As usual, my friends are experts in drying things. πŸ˜› I was back again after the break time and decided to set everything right. Apart from this, I started with Latex.
With this, the fifth week ended and there’s last one to go. Hope we complete the targets. πŸ™‚

Nearing The Shore

It was 2nd of June when my training started and I could see myself amidst of the great ocean of knowledge, craving for a direction that could lead me to the shore. Honestly, I didn’t know where to go, where to start from, where to reach at, where to find the shore, where ? I presently find this phrase so apt to say, ‘If you don’t know where to go, any path would take you there.’ I started with Django. Everything went over my head at the initial stage. Later, when I started with the django book, the concepts started entering my head. My boat found some pace. There were ups and downs. I understood one thing or another easily while others were difficult to manage.
But, still I was through and later, tasks were being assigned to all of us. Sometimes, I failed, other times I succeeded but the most disappointing scenario was failing even after trying restlessly. Those were the times when skeptical thoughts would block my mind and I could see my boat drowning, standing amidst of the ocean with tears that glistened down my cheeks. But, how could this sailor let her boat drown. Plus, the constant motivation from my friends and mentors regenerated my morale everytime it was about to sink.
I have always heard that fear is not good for learning, for progressing. I might be wrong, but my journey till today, explains how some amount of fear is necessary for progressing. For, I had no fear of failing…For, I had no fear of letting my family and friends down, how could have I been able to get up and try again after falling. This gives rise to a new word, ‘Healthy Fear’. πŸ˜›
This venture also, made me realize about my prominence, how much significant and responsible, I am, for my success and failure.
Oops! Oops ! I just went a little off track. πŸ˜›
Coming back to the project, I and my team have finally completed the task. This gives me sense of happiness. πŸ™‚ I started from nowhere and with each passing day, my boat is nearing the shore. πŸ™‚

Line of praise ;)

June 25, 2014

The day started at 6 in the morning, an hour earlier for me since I had to leave naani’s house to proceed for Ludhiana. We left from there at around 8, an hour later than it was planned by the virtue of the ladies( mumma, maami ji and maasi πŸ˜‰ ) and their never ending talks ( especially at the doors and gates πŸ˜› ) The journey was peaceful and the thoughts about my task didn’t vacant my mind for even a single minute. I had conquered my task the previous day and was thinking of the other alternatives I could implement for the same. I went straight to TCC from the bus stand. It was almost 11 when I reached there and was informed to mark my attendance in Sir’s office. I feared for I was late and hesitatingly entered into his office. But, I was allowed to mark my attendance conveniently. πŸ™‚ Later, I and Sanjeet showed our task to our mentor, Jasvir and there came the words, ‘kamm ta vadia kita tusi’. πŸ˜‰ This single ( though, short enough ) line was sufficient to make me happy, contented and confident. πŸ™‚ Though, it was a small task but, it was the first time ( since my training started ) that some words of praise or that very ‘Line of praise’ found the path to my ears. πŸ˜› We were then handed over the next task and we were set to launch up all again. πŸ˜› My entire day was spent in looking for the function that converts unicode to string. This was my mistake for I restricted my mind within the walls of a single method. I didn’t look up for any other way and tried finding that single thing the entire day.

June 26, 2014

From the midnight moon to the rising Sun, I was still wondering and searching for the same solution.
The four of us – Ashutosh, me, Amitt and Sanjeet sat down to complete our task. Ashutosh had a different approach and with that, we were finally done with the task. We all were happy but this left me thinking and made me realize my mistake that did act as a blockage, keeping me away from the completion of the task. I restricted myself to only one single idea. I could have tried for different approaches after having searched restlessly for one. Nevertheless, there’s learning in everything. πŸ™‚ We’ve now got our next task. Hope everything remains on track. πŸ™‚

Family Time !

June 24, 2014 ( Tuesday )

I was at Naani’s house since we had a leave today. It’s always fun to be here. Not to forget, I had my task pending. Unlike the usual case, my mind worked faster today. I was almost done with my task in an hour or so.( some improvements might still be needed ) May be, I have learnt some good django now, or may be, the task was easier or may be, it was the place ( Naani’s house ) that multiplied my mind’s processing rate with some significant factor. πŸ˜‰ The changes were saved, committed and pushed. The β€˜muh dikhayi’ ceremony of the task is scheduled for tomorrow. πŸ˜› Apart from the work, I enjoyed a lot here, with my cousin constantly cracking jokes he had learnt from the β€˜Pakistani Dramas’ he watch. It brought back the treasure of memories when he brought those sugar-coated cigarette shaped sweet sticks I used to eat as a child. πŸ˜‰ The food too was mouth watering. My favorite – Spring rolls were a delight to eat and that too with the entire family – delight++ . πŸ˜‰ It was followed by other delicious things and at last, the β€˜Rasmalai’ did make me feel like heaven. πŸ™‚ Someone has rightly rhymed the lines – β€˜Nani ghar jayenge, mote hoke aayenge’. πŸ˜› The day finally ends with me having no stomach for even a single extra drop of water. πŸ˜› Ludhiana, now, awaits my return in the morning. πŸ˜› πŸ™‚

Three down

Another week passed and the fourth week started. The 3rd week passed as I almost completed the views task, committed, corrected, modified and pushed the things. I also started another Django app related to recipes apart from the one we were asked to make. Though I was unavailable today because of some problem, yet we’ve been assigned tasks. Everytime I asked one of my friends about my task, I was further asked to ask someone else. :/ Finally, I got one when I asked on IRC. I’m in a team with Sanjeet. ( strange, she too was unaware πŸ˜› :/ ) The task is to make some app. I still have to dig in for the details. Hope this task goes well too. πŸ™‚
